Some other Keyword Research Tools

One need to choose those keywords that are frequently searched for and which is in high demand, but not being already used by many other websites and competitors, and thus has low competition. There are a number of keyword research tools that can help you find them.

Apart from the Wordtracker which was already discussed in an other article, we have some more equally important research tools like the Overture, Google AdWords Keyword and Guidebeam.

Overture's http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ keyword suggestion tool is free and much quicker to use than Wordtracker. It works more like the Wordtracker but doesn't tell you how many websites are targeting each keyword phrase. For example if you type ‘Computer’, the Overture search suggestion tool will tell you that during the last month the word ‘Computer’ was searched, say for example 459550 times at Overture.Com. Similarly 'computer game' was searched 302210 times. Also, given one word it will tell you all relevant combinations of that word, which are based on actual searches done by people. If the word you keyed in is not a common search term then you will not get any results. It means that very few people have actually searched for that word during the last month.

Even Google Keyword Tool generates potential keywords for your ad campaign and reports their Google statistics, including search performance and seasonal trends. Features of this tool include,
Sorting the results of your desired keyword search by popularity, past performance history within the AdWords system, cost, and predicted ad position.
Easy keyword manipulation where you can select a few keywords here and there or add them all at once.
Searches for keywords present even in any webpage URL specified by your search. It can also expand your keyword search even further to include those pages that are linked to or from the original URL page.
More keyword results are generated based on regularly updated usage statistics database. This helps you to get new keywords or phrases.

Guidebeam http://www.guidebeam.com/ is an interesting resource. Type in a phrase and it will suggest a large number of related searches. The numbers generated against each phrase are Guidebeam's estimation of how relevant that phrase is.

These softwares are useful for researching how people search the web and then optimizing your own web pages so that more people find your web site.

Use Keywords In Page Titles

It is recommended to use keywords in page titles itself. This title tag is different from a Meta tag, but it's worth considering it in relation to them. Whatever text one places in the title tag (between the and portions) will appear in the title bar of browsers when they view the web page. Some browsers also append whatever you put in the title tag by adding their own name, as for example Microsoft's Internet Explorer or OPERA.

The actual text you use in the title tag is one of the most important factors in how a search engine may decide to rank your web page. In addition, all major web crawlers will use the text of your title tag as the text they use for the title of your page in your listings.

If you have designed your website as a series of websites or linked pages and not just a single Home Page, you must bear in mind that each page of your website must be search engine optimized. The title of each page i.e. the keywords you use on that page and the phrases you use in the content will draw traffic to your site.

The unique combination of these words and phrases and content will draw customers using different search engine terms and techniques, so be sure you capture all the keywords and phrases you need for each product, service or information page.

The most common mistake made by small business owners when they first design their website is to place their business name or firm name in every title of every page. Actually most of your prospective customers do not bother to know the name of your firm until after they have looked at your site and decided it is worth book marking.

So, while you want your business name in the title of the home page, it is probably a waste of valuable keywords and space to put it in the title line of every page on your site. Why not consider putting keywords in the title so that your page will display closer to the top of the search engine listing.

Dedicating first three positions for keywords in title avoiding the stop words like ‘and’, ‘at’ and the like is crucial in search engine optimization.

Search Engine Optimization: How To Get People To Visit Your Site

You’ve put a lot of effort into designing a website, either for yourself or for your business. You even put one of those counters at the bottom. But sadly, that counter is not moving very much, if at all. How do you get more people to look at your hard work?

There’s a technical term for that question: search engine optimization. When you type a term into the search box on your favorite search engine, there is a ranking system that determines which websites are at the top of the list. The higher up a website is in a search list, the more likely it is a searcher will choose to visit that website.

The trick is how to get your website higher up in those rankings, or search engine optimization (SEO). It’s a popular question, after all, who doesn’t want more visitors to their website? There are many books, articles and websites devoted to SEO techniques. Here is just a sampling of some of them.

SEO involves researching search engine’s coding, structure and presentation to determine how websites are ranked. When you consider that no search engine indexes more than 16% of the web, you can see where it is very important to figure out how each of those search engines work.

That research, which should be done by someone with internet expertise, can find a problem that is keeping a search engine’s web crawler from fully exploring your site. There are consultants who specialize in finding and fixing these problems. It is important to remember that while search engines do offer SEO guidelines, they don’t list all of the factors they consider in their rankings. Google alone said it uses more than 200 different factors.

If an SEO consultant or company has determined there is not a technical problem keeping your site from ranking higher, you can improve a site’s ranking by making sure it has unique content so it can be easily indexed by those search engines. Try to make your web content truly unique. For example, you can add information specific to your region. Or, you can add additional information that cannot be easily found on other sites, such as your company’s product information.

Those are some of the right ways to optimize search engine use. Of course, there are also wrong ways as well. For instance, there is “spamdexing” which involves repeating unrelated keywords to trick a search engine’s web crawler into ranking a site more highly. A site that unnecessarily repeats a term, such as “SEO” could end up ranking more highly that a site that mentions the term less often but offers more actual information.

Another SEO technique to avoid is using a link farm. Search engines sometimes rank sites by the number of hyperlinks in the text. Link farms are a group of web sites that hyperlink to each of the other sites in the group.

These and similar techniques are frowned upon by search engine administrators and by web users. Search engines that discover such deceptive techniques may not only reduce the ranking of sites that use them, they can even remove the website completely from the search engine’s database. This has happened and not just to fly-by-night, snake-oil-salesmen types. It has even happened with prominent, international companies.

Probably the best and easiest way to optimize search engine rankings is to take the extra time and effort to meet each search engine’s guidelines. Keep in mind what a typical search engine user is looking for when trying to find a site like yours. “Do unto others as you would have done unto you” can definitely result in higher rankings in various search engines.

If your website is intended to generate business, it is definitely worth additional time and money for SEO. However, remember the internet is changing rapidly. Even the best SEO research will not necessarily generate higher search engine rankings.

While search engines are an important way to get attention to your site, it should not be the only method you use. Studies have shown that it is more beneficial to get links to your site from other websites. However, by investing in SEO, you can generate more legitimacy to your website.

Search Engine Optimization Myths - What You Learnt Was Always Wrong!

It is sad to see that most web contents tell people wrongly about search engine optimization. Most webmasters preach what is heard from other websites. You have been always taught mythology than the real lessons of search engine optimization for your websites.

I have heard many people saying that Google will penalize for duplicate content on your websites, which is totally a myth. I have added articles from various article directories to my web pages for the sake of content. I have not had any problem till now. The duplicate content terms of service is wrongly understood and taught. Every search engine has its own way to manipulate duplicate content. I will not go exactly on which terms each of them work. But, all search engines does follow one common specific criteria to judge the content as duplicate. Here it is: Those website contents that show same search results when viewers actually type a search term, with one or more of the same search result (duplicate), without any extra search benefits, such websites are to be considered as duplicate content sites.

If a website has 100% duplicate content of a original website, such sites are to be considered as duplicate content. If a website has 70% of original content and 30% of "borrowed content" or syndicated to the benefit of that website visitors, it is unlikely to be called as duplicate content site.

The fact that RSS came into existence on www, content syndication from mighty content websites to other small websites has grown rapidly and has largely benefited internet users. There is literally more than 10 million websites on internet and it is virtually difficult for each one to generate original content, always. Wikipedia is an example of such sites. It is not been penalized yet!

Similarly, another myth is about back linking strategy. The myth is that if you do not get relevant back links from authority websites, you will lose your ranking! Consider this. Yahoo! is number one in rank on www and Google number two. If you see both of them for "who is linking them", you will find they are linked some 100 million times. Not all links linking to them are relevant. Yet they are number 1 and number 2 in ranking on internet.

There is nothing like relevant linking strategy specified by search engines. A one way back links is although a criteria to good ranking, it always does not need to be from relevant sites.

Now is the time to understand what really is search engine optimization. Changes are happening every time when "Black-hat" technicians works out to cheat search engines often. Their alogarithm changes when they are tricked by them. Still, websites that is growing organically without using black-hat techniques have generously been rewarded by search engines and will continue to do so.

I will limit only for few of the search engine myths in this article. An article alone is not sufficient for me to present about these myths. There is even more to be told and taught about this subject, which I will cover it in my blog, with a free video presentation. You will also get a free chapter of "Search Engine Myths Exposed", where you will find more about it.

Seo Tips That Work

For a marketer on the Internet, search engine optimization is one of the most important things that should be learned. The first thing that you will need to do is to select a keyword that you are going to use and then include it inside your title tags. It is very important that you use some other words with your keyword in your title tag. Including your keyword or keywords in your content is also very important but you have to always bear in mind that your content has to read well at the same time.

Having content that is loaded with keywords that doesn't read well can work against you because you must remember that after you have someone visit your website, it has to be fun and interesting for them also. Submitting articles to article directories is also an effective tool for SEO but there are few things that you should know about it also. You should never submit more then five articles per day, as submitting more can get you stuck in Google's sandbox for a period of time.

Having fresh and interesting content in your website can not be overstated, because the idea is to have visitors become paying customers and there is nothing like boring and stale content to drive people away. It is also important to remember to have tasteful content that is palatable for the general public. It is important to always bear this in mind if your goal is to generate income. Only submit your site once to each directory and then check to see when you can expect to receive a denial or confirmation. There are many directories that will consider it spamming if you submit your website even as few as two times. You should be reasonable in your expectations with regards to time and remember that you are not alone on the Internet and other people are competing with you.

Making Web Traffic Come To You

If you want online business to be successful you need to have traffic to your website. Your can spend hundreds on website design and have the best products on the market, but the only way to sell your products and services is to have consistent and targeted traffic. It's not always easy to get the kind of website traffic that you're looking for. In order to get the correct type of website traffic you will need to expend your time, energy, and possibly money.

There are many different ways to get traffic for your website. You should research, evaluate and implement the various strategies and methods that are available to you. You do need to realize that it does take time for any traffic generator to produce results. The amount of time required depends on which method you select. Some approaches to targeted and qualified web site traffic may take longer than you expect, so don't give up.

It is essential to test different methods or approaches in getting traffic to your site. You should keep trying different methods until one works for you. The more common methods of generating web traffic are search engine optimization, pay per click search engine advertising and link popularity.

Search engines are the number one way of driving visitors to web sites. They are very useful in helping people find the information they need on the Internet. Major search engines develop and maintain their own databases of web sites. These web sites can be searched by using keywords in the search boxes. Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of studying search engines to determine how to get your web site ranked higher on the user searches. Search engines account for over 80% of visitor traffic to web sites. There is available software that helps in search engine optimization and ranking report generation.

Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising is when an advertiser pays for every click that sends a search engine visitor to an advertiser's web site. This type of advertising requires an advertiser to bid on key words or phrases chosen by the advertiser. The PPC search engine allows you to buy a top position in results for a particular word or phrase that you chose. These types of search engines deliver targeted and qualified visitors to you web site at an economical advertising cost.

Link popularity advertising depends on the number of web pages that link to your website. Link popularity is important because it increases the number of visitors to your website and the different ways people can find your website. If you only have a few links it will be hard for people to find your website. Your search engine rank can also be improved by increasing the number of relevant and quality websites that have incoming links to your website.

Although there are other ways to advertise your website these three ways are the most popular and have had the most success in the past. If you are new to internet marketing you should try a few of these methods until you find the one that works best for your site.

Three Secrets To Seo Mastery

Building your online business should always focus, first, on getting traffic and building a list of targeted prospects. Increasing your conversion rate is the rest of what you should focus on, but it all begins with traffic.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the fine art of setting up your website to attract search engines and make them like your site. The better job you do on your SEO, the higher up the rankings you will appear in the list, making your site appear more relevant and trustworthy in the eyes of your visitors.

Here are three simple SEO tactics you can use to get your site listed higher in the organic search engine results.

1) Define your keywords. Choose 50-75 keywords that you think people will enter into the search engines when looking for what you offer in your products and services. This is an absolutely vital step if you want to be recognized with the search engines. Then when you have your list of keywords, start using them in all your content: your sales pages, your articles, your resource pages, etc.

2) Start a blog. Blogs can be set up for free. You can start a discussion, post the emails you send to your list, invite other people to comment on your opinions and generally interact with your prospects and customers in a way that email sometimes does not allow.

Search engines love blogs because they include built in RSS (real simple syndication), are updated often and other bloggers can link to your blog whenever you post something they feel is worth telling their readers about.

You can set up a free blog at:

www.blogger.com

www.wordpress.com

www.clearblogs.com

www.livejournal.com

Your homework: Set up a blog, update it often, invite everyone you email to visit your blog by including your blog address in your email signature file.

3) Send press releases about your business. Write a press release responding to a recent political development, or news on the economy, or even what's happening in the entertainment world -- whatever way you can find to tie your release to recent developments. Or simply write a release announcing your newest product or service.

Pay www.prweb.com the minimum fee to post your release and submit it to the major news sites such as GoogleNews, MSN News, Yahoo News, Excite! News, and others. And make sure you include the URL of whatever sales website is directly related to your press release, and the address to your blog, in the press release itself.

Now you'll have a blog linking to your sales pages, which are also linked to from your press release, which also appear on huge websites such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, in each of their separate news service sections. And your emails are also sending traffic to your site and blog.

This combination is solid. It will definitely get your site and your blog listed in the search engines, and move them up in ranking. It might take a while for the search engines to catch up, depending on what other tactics you are using (I go over them in detail in the Mastermind Coaching Gym). But it's worth the work and the wait because the end result (free traffic) is priceless. And this is free traffic you can count on, month after month, because you got it the right way.

Search Engine Optimization Basics - Improve Your Website Ranking

* Define clear and measurable goals for the site and take benchmark measurements
* Keyword research - generate a glossary of keyword phrases that addresses both prospect needs and the content you’re publishing.
* Content creation plan - Think of it as an editorial calendar for your web site. You must PLAN on creating keyword sensitive content on an ongoing basis that adds to the user experience
* Keyword mapping - Using a spreadsheet, map keywords to the page or category. Focus is important, 1-2 phrases per page
* Keyword phrase order - Does the keyword order in the page match order in the query? Anticipate queries and match the word order: “luxury hotels Chicago” vs “Chicago luxury hotels”
* Keywords and the buying cycle. Consider the content and where it fits within the buying cycle: Research, Consideration, Evaluation, Purchase
* Keyword prominence (how early in the page content or title/meta description tag) - Guide: most important phrases high and to left
* Write to inform and convert as your priority, not to rank. Title tags and meta description tags should be written with keywords in mind, but the focus must be on motivating the reader to click through or to perform some other desired action
* Keyword in alt text of images, particularly of images that link to another web page. Keywords should be relevant to the page being linked to
* Filenames containing keywords are useful, but do not change your entire site URL structure if you’ve already published another URL syntax
* Use hyphens in file names, not underscores
* HTML site maps listing links to all pages or top level categories on the site are still a good idea
* Google Webmaster Central and Yahoo Site Explorer accounts can provide useful crawling and link information/resources
* For bloated pages, try to place JavaScript and CSS data in an external file to speed page load and to move content up in the document
* Implement and review web stats for trends, visitor behavior, content performance, referring traffic and optimization enhancement opportunities: Google Analytics, WebTrends, ClickTracks, Index Tools, HitsLink Enterprise

About Links:

* Anchor text of interlinking site pages should include relevant keywords, not “click here”
* Are all internal and external links valid? - Validate all links to all pages on the site
* Employ a tree-like/organization chart linking structure with a minimal number of clicks to any particular page
* Intra-site linking - Use appropriate links between lower-level pages. cluster links between sub categories
* Linking out to external sites - Only link out to relevant, information rich sites. Do not link to sites that do not add value to the visitor experience
* Avoid exchanging links for the sake of improving rankings
* Ensure link stability over time - Avoid “Link Churn”, i.e. changing outgoing links often

Linking tactics:

* Employ a linking program to acquire incoming links from relevant web sites by researching back links to high ranking competitor web sites
* Contribute articles using keywords in titles to industry publications - not article directories
* Engage in blogger PR and online media relations with relevant industry web sites
* Submit keyword optimized press releases to search engine friendly wire services such as prweb.com, prnewswire.com, marketwire.com or pr.com
* Submit the site to major directories - Yahoo directory, BOTW.org, DMOZ, Business.com
* Leverage social networks and micro-blogging to promote linkable content
* Diversify your link building tactics

A few things to avoid:

* Don’t block your entire site from search engine spiders with a robots.txt during development and then forget to allow after publishing (believe me, it happens more often than you think)
* Avoid all Flash, all Ajax, iFrames or anything that makes it difficult for a search engine to find and understand site content
* Avoid more than 100 total links going out on any given page. Site maps can be broken up
* Avoid JavaScript for navigation links. Use CSS for rollover or foldout menus instead
* Avoid temporary (302) URL redirects. Use permanent redirects (301)
* Avoid dynamic URLs with session ids, or URLs with more than three parameters and approximately 10 or less characters per variable
* Avoid buying links from networks of blogs or sites of unrelated content. While we don’t have any particular issue with the idea of buying links as advertising, at TopRank, we prefer to “earn” links for the most long term value and lowest cost per acquisition

This list is about a third of the checklist I’ve recently revised for our internal use on text-based SEO projects, but should offer small web site owners ample insight into the variety of considerations with fundamental site optimization and link building. Interestingly enough, while things are constantly changing in the world of SEO, some things stay the same as you’ll see in this 2002 post from Brett Tabke, “Successful Site in 12 Months with Google Alone“.

A deep historical knowledge base combined with active engagement, testing, learning and analysis is what keeps web marketers savvy in the ways of SEO and depending on internal resources, it’s also why some companies are better off outsourcing SEO than handling it 100% their own.

Web Site Ranking: Why It Matters

One of the most difficult aspects of marketing an internet site appears to be finding a way to route traffic to your site. That is not always the case. The wide array of information available about search engine marketing can be difficult to sift through.
It is even possible for a marketer like yourself to fall prey to that deception that search engine marketing is difficult. Another misconception is that it is costly, and that someone else must do the work for you. Luckily, this article can show you that the opposite is true. The rewards of search engine optimization are clear, and obviously worthwhile. What could be more rewarding than getting something for nothing?
You are about to find out a few very simple but critical keys to optimizing your site for the search engines. Each one of them is vitally important so don't cut any corners or you will be losing out on easy free traffic to your site.
It is important that you target keywords and phrases that people searching for the type of product you have to offer will actually be typing into Google and the other search engines. Try not to focus on the keywords that get thousands and thousands of searches per month as those keywords usually have to much competition if you are just starting out. If you rank #1 for a keyword phrase that gets a few hundred searches per month that might not sound like much but if you have 10 or 15 of those phrases that is a lot of traffic that you will get, a lot more than the majority of other sites are getting.
You need to remember that when using targeted keywords to include the same words in the text on your site. It doesn't pay to have your pages optimized for certain keywords when the actual content of your site is optimized for something else. You'll also want to have links on other websites that use the same keywords in the anchor text of the link.
One of the fundamental tenets of any Search Engine Optimization approach is to make other websites to provide hyper links to your web page. This way your web page gets maximum visibility and therefore it begins to figure higher in page ranks of search engines. To get maximum people to link to your website, start providing post synopses on web directories. It also helps to announce new posts on these forums after putting them up on your site.
As you were assured, these measures are easy and pain-free. They only require you to put in a minimal amount of effort. If you don't begin now, while you are motivated, it will be very easy to procrastinate and forget your intentions. Improving your web site for search engine evaluation is a crucial step in increasing the flow of traffic to your web site. This costs you nothing.
